Position Overview: The Yard Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all yard operations, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency. This role involves strategic/resource planning, team management, and active participation in daily yard activities to meet organizational goals.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Inventory Control: Coordinate with the Inventory Controller to ensure compliance with a labelling storage system that ensures quick access and minimizes handling time. Ensure that this system is followed by all Yard personnel.
  • Logistics Planning: Efficiently manage the storage device system and coordinate with dispatch all truck and trailer moves to ensure plant support, timely delivery of outbound goods, and receipt and tracking of all inbound deliveries.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess operational efficiency and implement improvements as necessary.
  • Safety and Compliance: Participate in the Development of safety procedures, implement and enforce safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and certifications.
  • Team Coordination: Plan and assign daily tasks to sub-teams. Manage staff scheduling, conduct performance evaluations, and facilitate training programs to enhance team capabilities.
  • Equipment Coordination: Plan and assign daily equipment allocation to the above tasks.
  • Yard Traffic: Plan and direct yard traffic in an efficient manner so as to avoid congestion, and bottlenecks.

Hands-On Responsibilities:

  • Products Handling: In communication with Senior Management, supervise and participate in the receiving, loading, unloading, and storing of products. Ensure materials are stored safely and following the established Yard plan, and documentation for all pieces and placement is maintained.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Conduct daily inspections of all equipment, including forklifts and lifting devices, to ensure they are certified, well-maintained, and ready for use. Coordinate with the maintenance team or external agents for necessary repairs.
  • Yard Organization: Maintain a clean and orderly yard and storage facilities. Implement efficient layout strategies to optimize space utilization. Work with senior management to capacity plan for future projects.
  • Documentation: Manage necessary paperwork, such as the planning and distribution of bills of lading (BOLs), load lists, and inspection reports. Ensure all documents are accurate and submitted promptly.
  • Team Interaction: Coordinate with Plant Manager, Inventory Controller, dispatch regarding delivery planning and timing.

We expect the incumbent to spend a portion of the time planning and directing work – and a portion of the time leading by example. Tasks may include occasionally covering Mijack/ telehandler/ Skidsteer/ Excavator Operation, loading trucks, and moving products in the craneway. Experience with heavy equipment is a requirement.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and interpret load lists and erection drawings.
  • Proficiency in creating and printing site maps.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with stakeholders.
  • Experience in yard operations, preferably in the precast, lumber, or steel industries.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in material handling.

Work Schedule

  • Monday to Friday, 10-hour shifts, with flexibility for extended hours depending on operational needs.

Pay: From $60,000 per year
