Position Overview: The Quality Control & Continuous Improvement (QC/CI) Manager at Fritz-Alder Precast is responsible for directing and overseeing all quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives across our operations and production facilities. This role ensures that all products and projects are completed to specifications as required by our valued customers, FAP standards, and certifying authorities. As the most senior quality management position in the organization, the QC/CI Manager will shape product quality and drive process excellence while supporting management in Engineering, Operations, Project Management, and Installation. Reporting to the President, the QC/CI Manager will collaborate with various leads to address quality incidents, gaps, and workflow bottlenecks. This role actively contributes to the business management team.
Job Purpose:
- Quality Assurance Leadership: Develop, implement, and manage a robust quality management system aligned with industry standards, ensuring compliance with CSA, PCI, and ACI certifications. Proactively identify potential product quality issues that could impact project delivery timelines, budgets, and specifications.
- Regulatory Compliance: Oversee risk management related to products, operations, and health & safety, ensuring compliance with all relevant provincial and local regulations. Lead quality-related inspections and maintain comprehensive records for audits.
- Process Optimization and Lean Initiatives: Lead continuous improvement efforts across production lines using Lean methodologies to enhance product quality and reduce waste, fostering a motivated team culture.
- Collaborative Responsibility: Partner with the management team to ensure timely, budget-compliant delivery of customer products and projects, optimizing productivity and profitability.
Primary Responsibilities and Objectives:
- Conduct pre- and post-pour inspections and ensure compliance with Ontario Building Code requirements.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to test outputs and resolve quality issues.
- Manage concrete testing procedures and maintain compliance documentation.
- Lead non-conformance reporting and corrective actions.
- Proactively monitor production processes to ensure compliance with FAP quality standards.
- Conduct root cause analysis and collaborate with teams to foster a zero-defect culture.
- Maintain documentation for product accreditations and inspections, ensuring alignment with regulatory changes.
- Identify and implement new technologies and processes for improved efficiency and quality.
- Establish and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assess departmental progress.
- Mentor and manage a team of quality control professionals, ensuring compliance and continuous learning.
Qualifications:
- An undergraduate or graduate degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in quality assurance and continuous improvement in a precast, concrete, or high-volume heavy manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario ministry regulations and compliance standards.
- ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I certification required; PCI Level I or II certification preferred.
- Proven track record managing inspections and audits with satisfactory results.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and driving continuous improvement.
Internal and External Contacts:
- Internal: Collaborate with all leaders and employees across Engineering, Operations, and Production.
- External: Work closely with installation partners, customers, and suppliers to optimize business success.
Physical Demands: This role primarily involves office work, with expectations to observe the installation of concrete products at client sites. The incumbent should demonstrate the importance of being present on-site to understand the user experience.
